Is Shimano or Daiwa known for having smoother reel performance out of the box?
Updated
Our focus is on crafting our own gear, but from what we hear in the angling community, both Shimano and Daiwa deliver smooth reels right out of the box. Shimano is often praised for exceptionally refined gearing and nearly frictionless start-up on many models, while Daiwa has a reputation for ultra-smooth retrieval as well, particularly with its Magsealed and high-end bearings. The choice between them often comes down to personal preference and specific model features—serious anglers tend to debate the nuances, but both brands are respected for smoothness.
